And, yes, I think he's perfectly serious.
One warm and fuzzy thought - Patrick Chan will certainly need a quad now, heh-heh...

LOL, I have to agree that Chan will certainly need the quad, now. It's kind of sweet revenge, in a way,

Yes, yes, yes!
I never, in a million years, though I would be glad to see Plushenko again But oh, if only I could see Chan's face when he heard these news! Anna |

I know!
I think it's about time one of the "old geezers" showed the new young pups that to be considered a great champion also means pushing the envelope technically in terms of difficult jumps. With Plush back in the mix, there can be no slacking off from anyone, LOL. Because to beat him, they'll have to have a quad. But, as you say, Patrick, what you guys are doing today is so much haaaarrrrrder than what the old guys used to have to do to be an Olympic Champion... Laurie |

No doubt Patrick Chan will "wecome the opportunity" to go up against Plushchenko, if for no other reason than to show Evgeni that he is an
"old geezer." LOL I truly hope Plush steps up to the plate to teach this young smart aleck a thing or two. Chan needs a good dose of humility from
one of the old masters and, since, Alexei can't do it---Plush is the obvious choice, LOL.

I'm beginning to understand why Chan thinks he's the second coming, LOL. Thanks to the Canadian journalists who treat him that way...
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/blogs/go-figure/comeback-element-to-2009-grand-prix-series/article1163594/ >> And what a meeting that will be. Plushenko won't have competed against the likes of Chan in his career. See who gets the higher presentation marks in this contest. That will be the most fun. The tough part for Chan, is that he will have to do it on Plushenko's turf, in his home country. That's not in Chan's favour, because, as we all have seen from the world championships in Los Angeles, judges do not always mark what they see on the ice. Not all judges. Just enough judges to affect a certain result. >> This totally cracks me up - "the likes of Chan." I can't seriously believe that a Canadian skater, who hasn't won anything really important yet, is automatically considered inferior to a multi-world champion and Olympic gold medalist by Canadian journalists, and if Plush scores better, then, of course, it's judges not marking what they actually see. And they are still whining about the men's world championship results in L.A., apparently... Laurie |

All this media hype is just...nuts, LOL. How in the world can the Canadian Media slather all this praise on Chan who hasn't quite proven that he's all
he says he is? LOL I think you're right, Laurie, that the Media is setting Chan up for a huge fall from grace when he fails to produce gold-medal winning
performances at the Olympics. Should Patrick not live up to all this hype (and my guess is he won't, immense pressure being the culprit) we'll
hear/see/read the shouts and whines of "wuz robbed" beyond imagination. This is setting up to be a "train wreck" of massive proportions,
LOL. It's has it's own strange attraction to it. You know it's coming and you don't want to watch but, because of the suspense, you can't
pull your eyes away from it, LOL
I keep wondering how much more the Media can pump into this Chan phenomenon before the Olympics, especially since we don't know whether he'll even make it to the Olympics. Perhaps Takahashi will out-score Chan and bump him out of the march to Vancouver. Man, the Canadian figure skating federation must really, really be desperate to go to the lengths they used, so far. For that matter, how did Chan become the Canadian savior? Why aren't they touting Takahashi? Mary C. |

Do you mean Daisuke Takahashi? Because he skates for Japan. The only competition Patrick has in Canada is...well, no one, really. With Jeff Buttle retired,
Patrick is pretty much on his own to represent Canadian men's singles hopes. There are other good skaters - Vaughn Chiper, Shawn Sawyer, just to name a
few, but, really, I don't think they are going to challenge for gold.

They need someone to make the public expectant of national triumph and so on and they found Chan and Virtue/Moir.But all they do is hyping and if Chan fails to
deliver a medal at least, but they talk as if he's Plush's only competitor, when he didn't even win Worlds."And the likes of Chan" sounds
as if there is no World Champion, no former World Champion and no Olympic Champion around.I can't understand why they have to 'hype' that much only
to trash their skaters afterwards a la Sandhu when he failed to deliver.

Oh, I think Plushy has competed against "the likes of Chan" before.... In junior competitions Yeah, that was mean, I know Anna |

I have such mixed feelings about 2002 Europeans, LOL.
I was one of those in our group who thought Alexei truly won both in terms of reality as well as judging. I thought Sasha skated beautifully - one of his best performances, no doubt, and how could you not cheer for the guy? But, at the same time, I thought his choreography was weak and he did the much easier program. But it looked gorgeous because it looked clean and effortless, and just flowed. Alexei had his troubles, but the difficulty of all of his elements made his program the better one, and I thought he deserved his win. I swear, if they had judged it under CoP, that would have been apparent to everyone. But "Winter" was fabulous. (sigh) "Overcome" in the gala - I had mixed feelings about that, too! While I loved that he "brought it" and obviously wanted to show everyone that, yes, here is your true champion doing a champion's caliber program ( But it was a great trip with fun friends, a beautiful setting, fab skating, and Alexei at his most adorable off ice - most everything was wonderful, and the memories of Lausanne will last me a lifetime! *sigh*
Every time I drive through Lausanne nowadays, I stop at Ouchy for a coffee..... Well, unless it's 2 am and everything is closed (yes, it has happened, recently.... I have mixed feelings about the 2002 Euros as well. I did think, at the time, that Abt was fabulous, and should have won, but I realized that I was wrong. I can't help to feel sorry for him - he totally deserved a few european titles, if only Alexei and Plushenko were not there... Talk about being born at the wrong time Now, which judge am I going to beg (or bribe) into analysing Alexei's programs according to the CoP ???? Hmmm.... Anna |
