I have to agree with you, Laurie, about being scared as to the outcome for, not only 4 Continents, but World's also. Czisny's foul-up putting her in
seventh place going in to the free program is nothing to be proud of, and the fact that Rachael Flatt messed up isn't good either. Rachael's been so
consistent lately. Alissa is another story, however. I have zero confidence that a US lady will medal. It's not surprise that the US Ladies are the weakest
they've been in years. It doesn't look very promising, especially for the up-coming World's, since this competition is a virtual dress rehearsal
for it.

For those with high speed internet, you can watch this live on a Canadian web streaming site. Just click on the arrow to the right of "Presentment &
Diffusion."

Thanks so much for the link, Laurie! I love Patrick Chan's program. Pretty good showing by the US men.

I was surprised by Jeremy's faltering, but happy for Brandon and Evan. Glad to see Evan has his fire back.
You can tell you are in Canada - Patrick Chan brought the house down. I have to say, I don't care for the venue - poor audience can't get close to the ice. Why can't they have Four Continents and the Olympics downtown at the good figure skating venue, LOL? Laurie |

Wow - the ladies tonight!
I could have predicted this before the event even started, LOL - but just in case people doubted - Four Continents had the cream of the crop. And these will very likely be your top skaters at Worlds, too, LOL. Of course, now there will be much gnashing of teeth that Caroline isn't going to Worlds, LOL. I'm tellin' ya, we're deep - just no one lady has it all, which in the past we had with Michelle, Sasha, etc. So we 'Muricans have to just hope, hope, hope that our ladies can get us three spots for next year. I still think that Alissa and Rachael can get the job done (although I have more faith in Rachael, LOL), but they both are going to have to be at the top of their game. (gulp) Congrats to Yu-Na Kim, Joannie Rochette, and Mao Asada, the Four Continents ladies podium. Laurie |

Article on the ladies...
http://www.latimes.com/sp...2009feb07,0,2741173.story I've enjoyed the Canadian web streaming site for live action, but my high speed connection isn't quite high speed enough to keep up with the skating smoothly so sometimes I just get bits and pieces - enough to know whether the skate was good or bad (although facial expressions tell you that story more clearly than anything, LOL) so I've been catching up on youtube with uninterrupted performances. I think Patrick Chan is a wonderful skater, and that's a most excellent short program he's got there, no doubt about it - but I end up scratching my head when some fans compare it to "Winter." Mao Asada continues to impress me. A truly worthy World Champion, I simply love her programs this year, and she skates them beautifully. And she's so fiercely competitive. Yu-Na Kim is also wonderful, and has a lovely, ethereal quality - the battle between these two will be incredible at Worlds. And I think it will be between the two of them. But as to who else might end up on the podium, I'm not even trying to guess, LOL. But I'm getting excited about next month! Laurie |

Uh, it's good but not Winter good. Not even in the ballpark.
Anybody getting the Men's long? Or am I getting the time wrong? Jennifer |

I thought I read on SkateFans that the men's long is at 1:30 or 1:45 Eastern time, but I think they meant to say 1:30/1:45 Pacific time?
Edited to add: well, some people are getting the feed so I guess it's just us and others that aren't getting it. (sniff) Laurie

Yeah, the schedule I saw was obviously wrong. I thought that seemed awfully early for them to be starting out there.

No, it is on now - some people are getting to watch it - just a lot of people aren't getting the feed (there are either technical problems or maybe the web
streaming site isn't showing it - they are complaining about it on SkateFans.
Edited to add: okay, people are getting the feed, but not from the Radio Canada site - they are going to show the men tomorrow. CBC in Canada is showing it live, but that's only for Canadians. I'll see if I can find some other web streaming site that's showing it. Here's the Justin TV web streaming link, but I don't think they are showing it right now: http://en.justin.tv/area10 Edited to add yet again: okay, it looks like the deal with the Radio Canada web streaming site is that they are now locking out everyone outside of Canada or not close to the Canadian border. Maybe the ISU (or the USFSA Laurie

If you can't get it on TV or the web, there is live play-by-play on Golden Skate:

Well, the men are over. You know, I like Patrick Chan, I do. But I just don't think he's "all that." I think he's this year's
anointed one by the judges - they've replaced Jeff Buttle with Patrick pretty quickly, LOL - and I think he's overmarked. I remember from Trophee
Bompard when I thought Kozuka should have won - and Alexei agreed, LOL, so I was in good company.
That said, I'm proud of Evan and I think he can feel pretty good about himself heading towards Worlds, although maybe gold is out of reach with all the Chan-love from the judges. I'm sure sorry Jeremy and Brandon seem to be struggling - hope they can get it together by L.A. We'll need them to! Jeremy, especially, I think has what it takes to do well - lovely skating when he's on. Hope he cheers up and gets that confidence back. And since I didn't have any live feed to watch today (sniff), may I say again how happy I am that I'm going to be in L.A. in person so I will get to see all the skating, all the time. It seems with such lackluster USA TV coverage, it's just about the only way you can guarantee you get to see skating here. Laurie |
