Well, unfortunately, I have to go to bed now - Christmas Day is a busy day for me.

Okay, I'm up!
Alexei skated with Irina Slutskaya today to "Last Christmas" in the partner switch. Supposedly an excellent number. They were not judged as they were both professionals. The other couples were judged and got marks, but the marks don't count for the determination of the winners of the competition. Valeria skated with Khvalko to something from Monte Cristo - marks were 11.96 Gordeeva skated with Shevelkov - marks were 5.9s for technique, 6.0s for artistry Semenovich skated with Rodriguez - 11.94 Petrova skated with Miller to something from Romeo & Juliet - 11.86 Arntgolts/Tikhonov Lobacheva/Beroev - 11.96 Friske/Staviski - 11.90 Babenko/Vanagas - 11.84 Totmianina/Tzsyu to something by Pugacheva - 11.92 Slutskaya/Kolganov - 11.94 Alferova/Kostomarov - 11.98 Strizhenova/Novikov - 11.94 Drobiazko/Kolobkov - 11.94 Sedokova/Marinin - "Crazy" - 11.80 Makeeva/Azroyan - "Unforgettable" - 11.82 Alferova/Beroev - "Reckless Love" (? - they must be switching up even more!) They've given out a prize for achievement in figure skating to Alferova & Kostomarov and Arntgolts & Tikhonov. They aren't done yet, apparently, LOL - be back! Laurie |

Apparently they are done. And they either taped the crowning of the competition winners secretly or they asked the observers to keep it secret. I don't
think a secret like that can really be kept when you have a live audience, LOL (they were never able to in the past), so I'm guessing they taped it off
camera this time. The prizes that Alferova and Arntgolts won were for the partner switch show today. And Tatiana was not one of the judges today (maybe
she's commentating at Russian Nationals?).
The fact that Alferova and Beroev skated together is interesting...I wonder if that's a clue? They are supposedly announcing the winners on Saturday at the gala, but I'm not sure if that means announced live at the gala show taking place at Khodynka Field on Saturday, or they mean announced during the TV broadcast of the taped gala on Saturday, LOL. Okay, here are the final results of the partner switch show - "Kapustnik" -
Tatiana Arntgolts - Aleksey Tikhonov - 11,98 Xenia Alferova - Roman Kostomarov - 11,98 Valeria Lanskaya - Andrey Khvalko - 11,96 Irina Lobacheva - Yegor Beroev - 11,96 Margarita Drobyazko - Pavel Kolobkov - 11,94 Anna Semenovich - Timur Rodriguez - 11,94 Irina Slutskaya - Vadim Kolganov - 11,94 Ekaterina Strizhenova - Vitaly Novikov - 11,94 Tatiana Totmyanina - Kostya Tszyu - 11,92 Ekaterina Gordeeva - Vladimir Shevelkov - 11,90 Zhanna Friske - Maxim Staviski - 11,90 Maria Petrova - Dmitriy Miller - 11,86 Alena Babenko - Povilas Vanagas - 11,84 Anastasia Makeeva - Vazgen Azroyan - 11,82 Anna Sedokova - Maxim Marinin -11,80 Navka and Taranda weren't there - Navka because she apparently got stuck in Kiev (they did a show yesterday in Kiev) and Taranda for some other reason. Alexei was supposed to be partnered with Breshneva, but he did the exhibition skate with Irina instead. Channel One management posted on the Channel One site to ask observers to keep silent about the final results until Saturday, supposedly to keep the press from finding out. However, many of the regular observers believe they taped the actual podium ceremony last Tuesday or Wednesday when they taped the finale and the gala and asked everyone to leave, but the judges remained behind. If true, fans think any audience voting past that date obviously didn't count since they had already performed the winners' ceremony with Tatiana there. Perhaps! Laurie

....and another theory from someone who was there today - that they will tape the actual results tomorrow. For what it's worth, no one is claiming to
already know the results - everyone is speculating.

Another comment from a fan who attended the taping - she said no one would be able to keep the results secret and that she doesn't believe the results have
been taped yet. She also attended an Averbukh New Year's event after the taping where Alexei performed "Bumbarash." We may get to see a partial
video later, but she said her videocam stopped before the end.
Also, fans who attended the Kiev show say that Strizhenova (one of the hosts) announced to the crowd that the results had not been determined yet and to keep voting. Ah, the intrigue! Maybe we'll learn more after the show in Moscow today - there are two shows, one today and one tomorrow, and I believe the results are supposed to be announced tomorrow. Laurie |

Well, they are showing the gala today, and apparently the results have not been decided yet. The producers want more voting from the audience.
One would almost get the idea that they aren't happy with whatever the audience votes are currently showing and are hoping if they give it enough time, it it will change... So, Strizhenova was correct when she said in Kiev or wherever that the results wouldn't be known for two weeks. I thought she had mispoken herself, but she knew more than we knew! Laurie |

Okay, I've gleaned a little bit more information in my internet travels, LOL. We may not even know in two weeks! Apparently, there are to be
"several" finales and they are continuing the show until March. Okay, I'm happy that I will get to continue to see more of Ice Age on Channel
One. Yay!
Not happy, though, that basically the producers are taking the coward's way out and not coming to grip with their own results, LOL. I don't really believe that the voting results from the audience were all identical, which is apparently the official story. I think the problem might really be that the numbers are close enough that a clear determination can't be made, and they don't want howls of protest, LOL. After all, many of the pairs have their own very vocal and active fans, LOL. Also, I suspect Tatiana Arntgolts and Maxim Staviski got quite a few audience votes and yet they had no judges' scores whatsoever from the semi-finals because they didn't perform. They could end up with all the audience votes in the world, but if the judges' scores count for 50 percent then there is no way they could honestly or legitimately end up on the podium. And, technically, in my opinion, they should have been out of the competition at that point - if you don't skate, you should be eliminated. That's only fair to the rest of the competitors, the ones who did show up and skate, injured or sick or not. But they've made so many exceptions based on injury, illness, other commitments, etc., that I guess they aren't doing anything differently that they haven't already done with other pairs. I suppose if you continue to think of Ice Age as "a cool TV show with figure skating" and don't take it at all seriously as a competition, the producers can do anything they want. But it's certainly not coming across as fair or right. Make rules - and stick to them - or don't bother with rules at all... Laurie |

Here are the Channel One page videos from today's gala broadcast, which I believe consists of performances from most of the original pairs.
Alexei and Valeria performed "Parisienne Walkways" http://www.1tv.ru/ice2/ Still a few hours to go before I can see the broadcast here. Laurie |

Well, it was an interesting broadcast, LOL...
Even not already knowing in advance that the ending was tacked on and that none of the skaters or the audience heard Tatiana's speech at the end because it was edited in after they had taped the show, it looked pretty fake. You know, if you are going to play games with your television audience, you really have to learn to do a more professional job of it, ahem. That said, though, the show itself was really fun to watch. First of all, the pairs who performed obviously either selected their favorite number or one of the numbers that were especially dear to them. And their taste often coincides with ours, LOL. So all the numbers were worthy and were some of the best numbers of the season. Also, the skaters and celebrities seemed a lot freer and way more relaxed - well, performing your numbers without judges present and being marked is probably a lot more relaxing. The holiday set decoration was gorgeous - very festive and winter beautiful, and Marat and Anastasia were elegantly dressed. I think almost all the pairs from the show's season performed, including Denkova and Rodriguez. Glad to see Albena's knee is doing so much better. I was very happy to see Alexei and Valeria performing "Parisienne Walkways." I think that was definitely one of their best numbers, and it was such a treat to see it again. They skated it perfectly, the costumes are beautiful, the music is wonderful, the storyline is interesting, and, well, I just love it. They also seemed very sweet and charming together in the before and after skate comments. Great show! Laurie |

Wow, I quit perusing the boards because I assumed that today and New Year's day would be the end of it. So continuing it to MARCH? What about the tour
dates already set up before then?? What the heck?
|
|||
SkateSand |
|||
|
I doubt they would tape into March, but they don't seem to have any more tour dates scheduled until January 18th so they could get a few more shows taped
by then and then dole them out for a while. They probably taped one of the Moscow shows so they can broadcast that, too, like they did last year. I think they
just wanted to avoid announcing any winners "now." For whatever unknown and mysterious reason.

I don't know how reliable this article is, but here's what this publication says about the continuation of the show:
http://news.mail.ru/culture/2277017/ "Ice Age": Finale With a Continuation 14:59 "Labor" >> The show of Channel One, "Ice Age," ended by the most uncommon means during the entire history of similar projects: judges refused to decide a winner of the show and declared it would be continued. The level of all the participants in the show proved to be so high that to exclude someone from the program the judge and the spectators were not able, about which she stated into everybody's hearing on the last program of the year. The chairman of the judges of "Ice Age" is the deserved coach, Tatiana Tarasova. Therefore all 12 pairs became winners, and competition between them will be continued in the new season. When the show on the screen will start again, Channel One keeps secret; however for "labor" it was possible to learn that the second part of this "Ice Age" will begin in the spring of 2009. Immediately after the new year, all star participants will go on tour to light the hearts of inhabitants in other cities, which have already fallen in love with our heroes on television. Between themselves competed the coaches of the project - Alexander Zhulin and Ilya Averbukh. Every two programs they switched pairs under their wardship - thus all participants had the capability to be coached by both champions. But spectators could select the best coach. In the voting with a small detachment conquered Alexander Zhulin. "This voting was conducted with incomplete rules," described to "labor" the coach of the project, Ilya Averbukh, "because spectators voted for their favorite pairs regardless of the fact of who they were coached by. In the continuation of the show in 2009 we will change the form of voting." The finale of television show became an unexpected contingency not only for millions of viewers, but also for the participants themselves. "To us they reported this only earlier than spectators learned of it, and, to acknowledge honestly, I was gladdened," shared with newspaper "labor" actor Vadim Kolganov, who appears with Tatiana Navka. - "For me it is not desirable to stop on achievement - spectators must see as I am developed in skating. From the other side, I with Tanya already conquered, indeed we succeeded in reaching the finale and obtaining high marks." >> I wonder if we will ever really know what happened here... Laurie |

I read this on the Quiet Haven forum, but I don't have the link to the article itself - this is an excerpt from the Russian newspaper "Antenna":
>> "We were filming the finals in an atmosphere of secrecy. The decision to continue the show came when we saw the results of viewer voting and understood that four pairs shared first place, second place - three pairs, third place - five pairs. I think this is a fair decision. So, in March of next year, the participants will continue their struggle. " >> Not sure who is being quoted, which is why I'd like to find the article itself. And so much for thinking Saturday nights would be my own again, LOL. "Hot Ice" is premiering on January 3rd on Channel One at 20:00 hours, Moscow
time. If they show it on the U.S. version of Channel One, too, I'll get to see it on my own TV.
Don't forget, the partner switch show will be broadcasted on New Year's Day, Thursday, January 1st. I'll keep my eye out for future broadcasts since they were clearly taping at least one of the Moscow shows at Khodynka Field so they are going to have to show that to us sometime, LOL. Unfortunately, the Channel One schedule I look at only shows a week at a time so I'll need to check it every week to make sure I don't miss any upcoming broadcasts. Another article - this one with photos and quotes from Valeria and Ilya - and it looks like it was Ilya that had been quoted as saying the show would continue
in March:
http://www.telesem.ru/content/view/814/1/ >> The show must continue! The favorite telecasts frequently conclude before the new year. Viewers are disturbed: 2009 - what will there be to look at? In the show of Channel One, "Ice Age," everyone was prepared for the finale - and the viewers, participants, and even members of the jury. On December 27, the entire country was to learn which of the twelve remaining finalist pairs would became the winners of the show. But it was declared that instead of the presentation of traditional medals for first, second, and third places, that all would be finalists… they will continue the fight after two months! ICE AGE: WE SLIDE FORWARD! Immediately after the end of taping, "tele-seven" had a talk with a finalist of the show, Valeria Lanskaya: - The rules were changed at the last moment. Why do you think? - In this year there was a very equal situation. An uncommon finale, you will agree - out of 19 pairs were left 12! The thanks to all who consider us a strong pair and show favorites. Yes, we are strong, but a pride of being special did not come into this experience. Here all the pairs are very strong. All grew during the time of the project. - What for you was necessary to refuse during the project? - Sleep. There simply was not sufficient time. I arrived for training after the play, tired, depleted, entirely without forces. Frequently the numbers are set for a day or two before the taping. In the fight with fatigue and stress helped Lesha's optimism. Although for him it was also not easy. On the final gala-concert, he skated with a high temperature, but nevertheless he continued to smile. It is necessary to smile and not to lose hope - this is important in sport, in the show, and in life. - As for you, was it possible to find a common ground with Yagudin? - Even our acquaintances told me about Lesha's complex nature. But we immediately agreed. We never quarrelled in the entire time of the project. I am generally in no way a person of conflict. Yes, and for what reason for us to quarrel? Music I selected, Lesha entrusted that to me. But then together we placed the dances. So that boldly I declare: Aleksey Yagudin - best partner, friend, and man! - It is no secret that your mom - Elena Maslennikova - is a choreographer-producer of the project. Some consider that you work on the project by patronage, yes, even high marks were obtained for the same reason. - What think "some" - to me is not important. I know that there was no patronage whatsoever. I was invited by Channel One because not long before the beginning of taping passed the series "Princess of the Circus" with my participation. Averbukh called me precisely because I was a face of the channel. For my mom, my participation became a surprise. She only asked me to be careful… - And herself she did not follow! - Mom obtained on the project a very serious injury - the break of a hip. I worried. During the day of her operation, I appeared on the ice. - There was no desire to turn away from the show because of this situation? - On the contrary, for me it was desirable to support my mom. I dedicated all our 6.0's to my mom. Immediately after the dance, I left for the hospital. Mom already proceeds with rehabilitation. Everything is good. ICE AGE - WHAT IS AHEAD? Producer and the chief coach of the project "Ice Age," Ilya Averbukh: -We were filming the finals in an atmosphere of secrecy. The decision to continue the show came when we saw the results of viewer voting and understood that four pairs shared first place, second place - three pairs, third place - five pairs. I think this is a fair decision. So, in March of next year, the participants will continue their struggle. >> Laurie |
