I feel a little embaressed . I love watching the "My Hot Ice", however it is very difficult not speaking Russian to understand what's going
on? I love what I see.; it's very interesting. The acting is getting better, but still a little stiff. Loosen up a bit. An english translation would have
been wonderful. redwoodangel

I figure out what I can, based on body language, and then simply enjoy the eye candy.
Some of it's pretty obvious, though. You have Tikhonov's character, who has an ex-wife or girlfriend and a young son, and a hot relationship with his coach (based on all the kissing they did in the car, LOL), she gets a "talking to" from the ex, and then drops poor Tikhonov and he doesn't understand why. Your typical soap opera shenanigans... Alexei's character clearly likes Asa, she's having some kind of family troubles, vis-a-vis all the arguments with her family, looks like Alexei plays mediator. Obviously, we miss a lot of what's going on, but it's not like it's real life or anything. It's just a TV melodrama. I'd be much more whiny if it were a "real" interview and we were missing out on important information. Laurie |

For those watching the whole series and not just the Alexei bits, here's the most helpful cast list I've found. It doesn't include all the cast,
especially the ones who dropped in later as the series progressed, but it's a good starting point.
Natalia (also referred to as Natasha) Trofimova (played by Ekaterina Guseva) Figure skater. From childhood she is occupied with figure skating. Woman of straight line and honest in everything, including in love. She can withstand all in defiance, even against her father. Violetta Konstantinovna (played by Ludmila Artemeva) - the aunt of Natalia She lives in Trofimov's house from the day of death of her sister, she brought up Natasha and holds entire economy in her hands. She is devoted to family. In the house, she is mistress. Alexander Trofimov (played by Boris Nevzorov) - father and coach Indisputable authority in the sport. Imperious, does not suffer criticism. Only person who has an influence on him is Violetta, the sister of his deceased wife. Anna Berkovskaya (played by Maria Anikanova - and for those who like to keep up with figure skating gossip, LOL, Maria Anikanova is Evgeny Platov's former wife and Ilia Kulik's former girlfriend - her father was/is the Russian Federation team doctor - but that's neither here nor there, LOL) Talented sportswoman. Former flame of Molodtsov. She left to live in the USA, but her professional and personal life didn't work out there so she returned to her native land. She became accustomed to everywhere break through, she is now and then unprincipled. Victor Molodtsov (played by Roman Kostomarov) Good figure skater. He was once in love with Anna Berkosvskaya - his female partner. After the departure of Berkosvskaya to America, he became the partner of Natasha. With failure, he blames those surrounding him. Roman Kozyrev (played by Aleksey Yagudin) Figure skater who arrived from Barnaul to conquer Moscow together with his friend Lyuda Izmaylova, a talented figure skater. For work, he starts as a night watchman at the ice palace, where he trains at night. Sergey Brattsev (played by Pavel Trubiner) Interesting, charming, talented figure skater, the partner of Loginova. Soul of the company. Nikolai Rokotov (played by Aleksey Tikhonov) Number 1 team figure skater in Russia. His partner is Alexandra Belkevich. He attained all by his talent and labor. He adores his son. Alexandra Belkevich (played by Anna Bolshova) Number 1 team figure skater in Russia. Like Rokotov, she attained all by her talent and labor. Purpose - to marry Rokotov. For this dream, she is prepared for meanness. Vika Polonskaya (played by Valeria Lanskaya) Young, talented figure skater from the provinces. She is invited by Trofimov to be a pair for Rokotov. She is upright, naive. In the capital, she feels uncomfortable. With trembling, she relates to her coach and her partner. Maxim Voronin (played by Alexander Abt) Outstanding figure skater, for a long time skating in the USA. Former champion of America. He returned to his native land in order to continue his career. Personifies himself by the principle, "victory at any price." Vera Loginova (played by Natalia Rychkova) Eternal Number 2 team figure skater in Russia. This does not give her rest. She is obsessed by the dream to become first. For this purpose, she can betray not only her partner, but also her beloved. Mikhail Gromov (played by Alexander Tyutin) Coach of Number 2 team. He is more flexible than Trofimov. He is clever, sly, a provocateur. With the figure skaters - rigid, with the authorities - a diplomat. He can spoil anyone's life. Other parts: Asia - young skater Lillia - Asia's mother Vitali Smylkin - director of the ice rink Irina Slutskaya (don't know her character's name) - coach Laurie

One of the Russian show biz news sites - Telesem - does a synopsis of the episodes as they appear on Channel One. I'll try and keep up with them, LOL.
Previously: They take Roman (Alexei) to the hospital. Natasha feels guilty for what happened and blames herself. Molodotsov comes over to the Trofimovs and tells Natasha that he was invited to an ice show in France. Rokotov reports to Trofimov that he will not go to Germany since he has no one to leave his son with. Natasha goes to the vice president of the federation, Korneyev, in order to request money for the treatment of Roman. Alexandra attempts to make friends with Rokotov. Roman reports to Lyuda that Natasha did not find the money for his operation. Lyuda invites Smylkin, the rink director, to her home for supper. Natasha goes to Asia's home in order to explain what has happened. Lillia tells Natasha that she cares for Trofimov. Lyuda brings Natasha money for Roman's operation, but requests her not to tell Roman where it came from. Rokotov makes a proposal to Belkevich. They go to Germany together with Nikita. Maxim Voronin comes to Trofimov. Smylkin acknowledges to Remnev that he has fallen in love with Lyuda, therefore gave her money for the operation for Roman. Gromov learns that except for him, Korneyev summoned all coaches to Germany. Korneyev reports to Privalov that his team? will go to the European Championships.. Roman is released to convalescent care. He learns that Lyuda was expelled from the ballet (not sure if all these references to ballet really mean ballet or something more to do with figure skating, ice dance, school/group, etc. - but the translation is "ballet") Loginova leaves the ballet and returns to Gromov. Privalov learns that Asia is his daughter. The Federation has passed in council that was formed a new pair - Loginova and Voronin. Trofimov searches for a female partner for Rokotov. Zolotarev wants to describe to Roman how Lyuda procured the money for his operation. Trofimov finds Rokotov a new female partner. Remnev reconciles with Loginova and returns the ring. Privalov agrees to coach Asia. Lyuda charges Natasha with treachery and rejects working with her. During training, Berkovskaya obtains an injury. The doctor forbids Berkovskaya to train for a whole week. Anya charges Natasha with all her misfortunes. With Smylkin appear problems with leaseholders. Korneyev makes to Natasha a serious warning appropos of her methods of operation. In order to upset Trofimov, Berkovskaya decides to break the prohibition of the doctor and to skate. Rokotov and his new female partner, Vika Polonskaya, renew training. Voronin begins to handle(?) Natasha. After returning from the meeting, Natasha for the first time skates after her severe injury. Today was the end. For me was a bit strange end. Asia and Roman will live together, it seems Natasha and Kolea will be together. The situation between Vika and Maxim is not clear. In conclusion: To win= to love skating, to have talent, determination, a lot of work, to be strong physical and and mental, to leave all personal and professional problems, at every competition to be well determined. Knowing Alexei's carrier, in the serial appears a lot of aspect from his life: to skate in every physical condition, to skate with serious injury, to have problem with the former coach.
The serial was a good one, a lot of skating, a lot of aspect of the Russian every day life. I like it.

Thanks so much, Lizzy!
I think this is the end of the 100 episodes they first taped, but they might continue the series if it was popular enough. I'd hope to see more! Laurie |

Article and photos from an interview with Alexander Abt where he talks about the filming of "Hot Ice," how it feels to play a villain, and
specifically the big fight scene with Alexei (where they fought over Natasha). He says they joked and laughed about it, and he adds that his relationship with
Alexei is generally excellent.
http://life.ru/video/8960/ For those who missed it, the fight scene video was posted earlier in the thread. Poor Alexei - he has a lot of bad luck in this series: gets injured and hospitalized, operated on, coaching changes, girlfriend changes, wins titles, all the while looking gorgeous. Such a change from his normal life. (edited 'cause I can't spell Laurie

Episode 97
Before the short program, Romka wants to meet Natasha to tell her, that without her he couldn't becomes who is now. At the short program he didn't skate well and finishes at the 5th place. Sitting together with Asia, he tells her that he now is friend with Natasha, now he loves another woman (Asia) and he hopes that she will be tender with him.
At mark 8,40, Privalov is very upset with Asia because she is a little sleepy ( they, Asia and Romka, spent
the night together). After Asia took the ice, Romka tells Privalov, that he loves her. Privalov says that he hopes that is a true love, because "he has a
very heavy hand".
